6.5 hour intensive; repeated each of three days. “Person Centered Care—Making Connections”. This course explores the foundations of person centered dementia care including how to meet the core psychological needs of vulnerable adults in formal care settings.

Easter Seals National

The Brand New and the Tried and True. A 60 minute book club teleconference forum facilitated by Jentle Harts. Topic of the month: Person centered care. A collection of articles related to person centered care is the focus of discussion.
 

August 20-22

Pioneer Network Conference, Washington, DC

60 minute concurrent session: “Culture Change in Adult Day Services”. This session will present a person centered approach to ADS that erases artificial barriers and focuses on the emotional well-being of participants.
 

August 28

The Brand New and the Tried and True. A 60 minute book club teleconference forum facilitated by Jentle Harts. Book of the month: Getting to Know the Life Stories of Older Adults by Kathy Laurenhue.

Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter.
Annual Education Conference

90 minute concurrent session: “A Person Centered Dementia Care Perspective On Life History and Its Effects On Behavior”. This session explores practical psychosocial approaches including life stories to interpret what have previously been termed “problem” behaviors.

90 minute concurrent session: “Taking Care of the Career”. This lively sensitive session will focus on supporting the career in their caregiving journey while never losing sight of enhancing the well-being of the care receiver.
 

September 16

Indiana University School of Medicine, Public Health Café, Indianapolis, IN.

60 minute session. “Person Centered Care: Getting Back To Basics”. Discussion of the foundation and ethics of person centered care will be the focus with practical application of techniques and principles for health care providers.

Franklin United Methodist Community, Franklin, IN

3.5 hours—“Leadership Skills for Organizational Change”. This session will explore leadership skills necessary to advance culture change within care organizations.

4 hours—“Revitalizing Your Culture Change Initiative”. Learn practical approaches to empower and renew staff excitement to be effective change agents within initiatives targeted to change the culture of care within long term care settings.
 

October 17

Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Indiana, Columbus, IN

4 hour session. “The Brand New and the Tried and True in Alzheimer’s Care”. The latest, up-to-date information regarding new advances in dementia care will be shared and the program will also add to the tried and true foundations of good care—good communication skills; use of residents’ personal preferences and social history to enrich their lives and improve outcomes of care; and individualized care planning.
 

October 24-26

Dementia Care Mapping International Implementation Group, Bournemouth, England

Partners of Jentle Harts will represent the USA in international discussions of how to advance the philosophy and approach of person centered dementia care and particularly the outcome measurement of dementia care mapping. 19 countries are to be represented in these discussions facilitated by the lead organization—The Bradford Dementia Group, Bradford, UK.
 

October 28-30

UK Dementia Congress, Bournemouth, UK

90 minute concurrent session: “I Taught Them Everything I Know, Why Didn’t They Learn?...Creating an Educational Base for Person-Centered Care”. This humorous and practical session will give concrete examples of how to use adult learning styles and the experiential learning cycle for creation of truly person-centered educational experiences.
 

November 7

National Adult Day Services Association, San Antonio, TX. Annual Education Conference

90 minute concurrent session: “jAppraising the Value of NADSA’s Certified Program Assistant Training”. The session gives an overview of the NADSA curriculum designed for program assistants as well as discusses outcomes of the training and certification process for program assistants.

November 8

November 12-14
